Question
Our team is considering creating a small Advanced Class aircraft for which it becomes impossible to strictly follow the rule 2.22, especially the part "The red arming plug shall be a minimum of nine (9) inches away from any propeller at any point in its rotational plane". Is there flexibility in this requirement?

Answer
Red arming plug geometry requirement is intentional and must be followed. If your design does not meet that requirement, it is not a valid design and will not pass inspection. Last year (2025) our rules had a gap and we were forced to leverage 'best intent'. This year (2026), we've taken the opportunity to correct that miss and hard code the safety requirement. Several teams have asked about this and we are consistent in our response that this is not a flexible requirement.
